Disha Ravi: Celebrate People’s History Poster

This poster was designed for the Celebrate People’s History Poster Series, created by Just Seed’s: “a decentralized network of 41 artists committed to social, environmental, and political engagement.” It was originally designed as a linocut print and then digitally formatted to include colour and text.

Disha Ravi is an Indian climate activist and one of the founders of Fridays For Future India. In 2021, she voiced support for farmers during their massive national protests against privatization. Because of her support, Ravi was arrested by local authorities for sedition, a law originally implemented by the British during colonial rule. Even while under arrest, Ravi maintained her support for the farmers throughout. Her commitment to raising awareness and advocating for collective social justice in the face of adversity illustrates the importance of defending and supporting communities, alongside the strength of activism and organizing more broadly.

It is #185 in the Celebrate People’s History Poster Series.

Creative Deck Design

In 2022, I worked as a Creative Coordinator for contemporary artist, educator, urban researcher, and culinary researcher Nahla Al-Tabbaa. Part of this work involved the creation of multiple creative decks used to present Nahla’s projects, work, and practice as a whole. Below are highlights from two decks I designed:

Shamsa

A deck used to characterize and market an artist book

Artist Deck

A deck used to highlight select fine art projects from Nahla’s practice

Tattoo Flash

An example of a flash sheet with spot illustrations for tattoos, all created with India ink and dip pens and refined digitally.

Text

A variation of hand lettered text pieces, including some with accompanying spot illustrations.
